I have exactly the same problem as mentioned in issue #23289. This started a few days ago, maybe after upgrade to Joomla 3.4.4

Unauthorized (Status Code: 401)
Failed to process file (file name)

ANGIE shows no problem but files are not uploaded to Dropbox.

Edmondo
Tried to Authorize again but with success.

We now have three open tickets where Dropbox is throwing a 401 error. Nicholas was working on the first one last week, Davide took it over since Nicholas is out of town this week. I'll flag the two new tickets for Davide to look at too. Davide is going to be doing some heavy duty juggling this week.

I don't really think this is the answer either, but... AWS was down over the weekend and Dropbox uses AWS for their data storage. Does the problem still exist?

Hello Edmondo,

it seems there are some issues with Dropbox uploading.
We didn't touch our code, they say they didn't change anything, but you can't upload any file :(
I can only see that they updated their API version, but they claim that the version 1 would not be affected.
I'm very sorry for this, we'll keep investigating on it; in the meanwhile you can manually upload your files to your Dropbox account or use another cloud service.

I just got in touch with DropBox support and after some debugging, we found the cause of the issue:
We have made some updates to our OAuth 1 signature checking recently
So it seems they touched something.
The good news is that I know what to change in order to fix the uploading, the bad news is that it will take few days before a new version will be released.

Ciao Davide,

It looks like the problem is solved already.
I did no update. Can it be Dropbox did an update?

Edmondo

Edmondo
hmmmmm. Other website with same version Akeeba (4.3.1) and Joomla (3.4.4) is having this issue now

????

The problem is the result of a change that Dropbox made on their end, so yes, you could have the issue with older versions of Akeeba Backup and Joomla!. It is my understanding that we will release an update to fix the change that Dropbox made. The problem should be with all Dropbox uploads.

Edmondo,

Can you please try the latest Dev Release at https://www.akeebabackup.com/support/akeeba-backup-3x/23291-dropbox-processing-failure-2.html#p128665 to see if it fixes the problem?

Hi Dale,

I tested rev32FB24D on three websites, all three had no problem uploading to dropbox.
One thing I noticed is that all three backups are 0.5MB smaller than the backup with 4.3.1
I did not test the restoring the files.

Thank you for your feedback! The size difference is expected. We are reducing the size of Akeeba Backup itself with a new, more compact Amazon S3 library (yes, the size difference is substantial!).
