EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

I am not having a problem. In fact everything is going quite well. I just want to check in before I make a mistake.

I wish to create a cron job that only backs up my data every few hours. I don't believe my issue will be creating the cron job, but I am not certain what command to execute with the cron job.

Do you have a preferred off site vendor?

Thanks

Sandor

You are framing the question wrongly in your mind, that's why you didn't figure it out yet :)

What you need is a new backup profile with its Backup Type set to "Main Site Database (.sql file)". You can use the Exclude Database Tables if you want to only backup a few tables, i.e. exclude those you don't want to backup.

Now go to Component, Akeeba Backup and select the new backup profile from the drop-down list. Then click on Scheduling Information to get the command line you need to run it through CRON. Take this and create a new CRON job. That's it!

Regarding an off site storage vendor, I prefer Amazon S3. It's cheap, it's fast, it's reliable and there are so many third party tools supporting it which opens up a world of possibilities.
