EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
when updating to 4.2.0 pro I received an error message. I could not report it because it was the weekend and the ticketing system was closed. I jotted down some details but stupidly have mislaid them.

despite getting an error, the version number was showing as 4.2.0 and backups have been running successfully. I have not had a chance to test a restore so I may be living in a fool's paradise.

I updated to 4.2.1 pro today and once again I got an error but the version number increased. I have not yet attempted a backup.

The updates were performed from Watchful.li. Other sites have been fine with updates to these akeeba versions.

I am attaching a backup log from 4.2.0 and the "message" that was shown in watchful.li when i updated from 4.2.0 to 4.2.1

Is everything ok despite the error? If so, is there a way to avoid getting error status in future?

Thanks

I would recommend using Joomla!'s Extensions Manager, Update tab to install updates to our software. Otherwise you will need to ask Watchful.li for support regarding any updates installed through their service. We can't provide support for a third party service for the simple reason that we have no way to test it, debug it and fix it. We can only provide a certain degree of support for installing our software and updates to our software using Joomla!'s extensions manager. Even though we can't directly change its code (bug fixes for the installer sent by us to the Joomla! project take anywhere between 1-9 months to ship in a production Joomla! version) we can at least trace the code and pin down the probable cause, allowing us to provide you with a workaround.

If you are not sure whether Akeeba Backup has been successfully upgrade please install Akeeba Backup 4.2.3 (released yesterday) twice in a row, without uninstalling anything in between. If the second installation results in an error, please first consult our troubleshooting page. Please keep in mind that, as far as Joomla! is concerned, installing and updating an extension is the same thing, that's why the troubleshooter is the same for both. If this doesn't help –very unlikely, because there isn't any cause for failed installations not addressed there– please give me the exact error message so I can at least try to pinpoint the problem.

Thanks.

In the first install using extension manager, I got

Warning

Unknown column 'type' in 'where clause' SQL=SELECT * FROM `afc__postinstall_messages` WHERE `extension_id` = '10026' AND `type` = 'action' AND `title_key` = 'AKEEBA_POSTSETUP_LBL_BACKUPONUPDATE'

and the 2nd time I got exactly the same message

The advice in your troubleshooter document did not appear relevant to this message. It looked like a database problem so I went to the database tab in extension manager and there was a message that versions where out of whack. I clicked "fix" then re installed akeeba twice but the same error message persists.

It looks like one of the core tables (afc_postinstall_messages) is corrupt. We'll have to create it afresh. Please see the attached file. Using phpMyAdmin, or whatever database management tool your host provides, run the contents of that file against your database. It will create the table afresh.

If you get any errors you need to contact your host and ask them to repair your database and repair or drop the afc_postinstall_messages table. Then you can install Akeeba Backup and any other extension making use of Joomla!'s Post-Installation Messages system.

Thanks

The fix ran without errors but I still get the same error message after install. I will pursue in other ways. Thanks for trying
