EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

This I hope is more of a feedback item than a problem:

I backed up my website today prior to a JCE and Akeeba Backup upgrade to the latest versions from the immediately prior versions.

I then backed up again with the latest versions of both installed.

The back-up file size has reduced from 575.87Mb (where it has been about for a while) to 511.94Mb.

Do you know why this has arisen, or if there any easy way to compare the two files to see where the difference has arisen? It is a substantial change. I am checking also with JCE.

Thanks

David

Most likely it has nothing to do with the component files themselves. Old versions of Akeeba Backup had a bug which made them back up some useless files such as error_log (PHP error logs), core.* (Apache core dumps), sometimes Thumbs.db / .DS_Store files (thumbnails cache) and the contents of your logs directory.

All these files tend to be large and useless in the context of a site backup. These files are for troubleshooting. If you have to restore a backup these files offer you nothing at all. So we are now excluding them automatically. Hence the smaller backup size.
