Description of my issue:

I need to update a joomla 2.5.6 website to 3.3.x but the latest aka BU version supports only Joomla 3

I know that there are still older versions available, but i couldn't figure out which one i can use to create the BU

Which version should I use to backup this old site?

Our Compatibility Chart says you need Akeeba Backup 4.1.2. You can download that version here: https://www.akeebabackup.com/download/official/akeeba-backup/4-1-2.html.
