Backup completes but no FTP transfer occurs.

The credentials are correct as I can ftp using them with FileZilla.

You are trying to upload a 330 Mb file via FTP in one step, that isn't going to work. Your FTP has to run within PHP's time limitations, you're getting a PHP timeout. You need to break the archive up into parts, then each part runs in its own time window. The archive part setting is in Configuration under Archiver Engine. Start out with 50 Mb, then we can adjust up or down to find where the limit is for your server.

Hi, I don't think that's it as I excluded all files except the index.php file and the same thing happened. This time I watched the whole process and saw the following appear every other minute
Backup Halted and Will Resume Automatically

The backup operation has been halted because an error was detected. However, Akeeba Backup will attempt to resume the backup. If you do not want to resume the backup please click the Cancel button below.

The backup will resume in 5 seconds

Cancel Resume

For your information, the last error message was:

AJAX Loading Error

HTTP Status: 500 (Internal Server Error)

Internal status: error

XHR ReadyState: 4

Raw server response:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator at [email protected] to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 503 Service Unavailable error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

And this was a very small file

Oops log file did not attach

Your 2 Mb file is not a timeout problem. Let's check the connection settings under Configuration. Especially look at the folder settings and the popup help there. That causes a lot of headaches.

If that all looks right, flip the passive mode setting, if it is checked, uncheck it and vice versa.

Does your Test button work?

Left the folders blank so it could upload to default plus flipped from passive but made no difference. I think the problem lies with the host as it worked with a previous host on the same settings. The problem is that when they test they say there is no problem and Akeeba is not returning any relevant error logs. Also the test ftp button in akeeba does not do anything.

dlb
I'm not sure that blank will work. Please try it with the /.

Alas no difference

dlb
You are right, the Akeeba log does not provide any detail of what is going on with the FTP connection, but the receiving FTP server probably does have a log that would tell us! Can you please check that and see if it tells us anything interesting?

Still think the webhost might be blocking something

dlb
Look at the elapsed times between the PASS lines and the ControlChannelClosed. We're geting 20 minutes plus on some of them. The host may be killing the job before it is complete, but it isn't blocking the connection. But the elapsed time can't be right for the backup upload because it would time out on the Akeeba end long before that. Are all of these connections attempts to upload the backup archive? Are we still trying to upload the small archive?
