EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Today when I tried to access Akeeba Backup Pro from the Administrator Control Panel I get a blank white screen. No error shows up. I tried a lot of different things from a Public Support listing to get the error to show, such as changing .htaccess file, configuration file, adding a php.ini file.

I cannot think of anything that was done on our site to cause the error. I didn't just upgrade or anything like that. I had run a complete site backup in mid-May and a database back-up last week with no problems. I was going to access it to make another database backup.

But, I actually couldn't even access the administration back-end because of a JCE php error. I had to rename the com_jce folder using ftp in order to get access.

I have installed Admin Tools Pro maybe 2 weeks ago and have been working on adjusting the settings. But, I tried disabling Admin Tools to see if it was the reason for the error and it didn't help.

Any ideas? Now I can't run any backups at all.

Thank you, Teresa

Teresa,

Two suggestions:
  1. Edit your Global Configuration and set error reporting to "Development" and Debug to "Yes". That may display the error message. You may have done that already but you didn't list that in the things you've tried.
  2. Replace your .htaccess with the Joomla! standard file. It is probably in the root of your site as htaccess.txt. That is a good safe fallback when you suspect you may have .htaccess troubles.
Is the problem with JCE suspicious? Is it possible your site was hacked? Don't panic, I don't have any evidence of a hack at this point. But you've got two unrelated components giving mysterious errors at the same time. That gets my Spidey sense tingling.
