Hello community,
I work with Akeeba Backup Pro version 4.2.0 was disabled the function of the System Restore Point for Joomla and also deleted the corresponding plugin.
Now I have many unnecessary restore files on the server in my backup folder.

1. Can I just delete them via FTP?
2. Are there any of these files, refers to the database?
3. If the function system restore point eventually restored?

Thanks & Best Regards
Thomas Selendt

Hi Thomas.
  1. Yes, see also #2 below. If you do it this way they will show as "obsolete" on the Manage Backups screen.
  2. You can delete the database records (and the files) through the Manage Backups screen. This will handle both at once.
  3. The System Restore Point feature had really outlived its usefulness. It worked very well in simpler times, but now you can do so much with the installer that it is very difficult to figure out what to back up. A full site backup prior to making these sort of changes is really much safer.

Hi Dale,

Thank you for your quick response.
This is precisely my problem. In my backend screen is now after updating to 4.2.0 the menu to manage no longer the System Restore Points. I can only full backups manage.

Ah! I'm sorry, I should have realized that. Go with #1 and delete the extra files. If there are any orphaned records that were not purged, they are stored in the same table as the backup records, so you don't have an orphaned table. They may have been purged by the update, but even if they were not, it is dangerous to try to clear them directly from the database. They won't hurt anything.

Hello,
thanks for the help so far, I have to explain the problem again in more detail.
After updating to version 4.2.0 there is no longer the option to delete Restore Points created in the backend.
So I wanted to ask if I can delete the orphaned Restore files via FTP manually from the backup folder now, without damaging the database.

Thanks Thomas Selendt

dlb
Deleting the orphaned files via FTP will not affect the database.
