EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Couldn't write to the archive file; check the output directory permissions and make sure you have enough disk space available.[len=659450 / 1048576]

I've been developing www.roberttearle.com in a sub-folder 'newsite'.

I made the site live yesterday by putting the existing site into a folder called 'old' and moving all the Joomla files into the root directory.

In global config I changed the paths to tmp and logs from /home/robertte/newsite/public_html/xxx to /home/robertte/public_html/xxx

I installed akeeba backup, and attempted to backup but it failed with the error message above.

I attempted to run ALICE but it hung at the initialisation stage.

The temp directory has permissions set at 755.

I ran ssh df -h which returned 12GB free, 69% usage of 39GB available.

I have other, larger, sites on this server. I have tested Akeeba backup on one of these and it is working fine.

Have you any ideas what I've done wrong?

Thanks

Ian

Hello Ian,

what's the size of the site you are currently backing up?
Please remember that you will need at last 1.5 times the size of your current site.

Moreover, how many files you have on your server? Please note that every server has a limit on the amount of files that it can handle (it's called inode limit). You should ask about it to your host.

Finally, please remember that even you have a lot of free space, this doesn't mean that is immediately available, usually hosts grant more free space in "batches".
For example you have 10Gb of data and 10Gb of free space: the hosting will give you a total 10.5Gb of real disk space. When you are approaching the limit (let's say you have 10.4Gb of data), they will grant you another 500Mb of available space, for a total of 11Gb.
This process is not immediate, so if you are creating a big file in a small amount of time, you could have write errors since there isn't any free space.
Please consult your host for this scenario, too

Hi David - many thanks for getting back to me.
I'm afraid the problem is user error at my end.
I was looking at total free space on the server without realising the domain had a 500Mb limit, which it was nearly up to.
I increased the limit this morning, and have just backed up successfully.
Sorry to have bothered you unnecessarily, and thanks again for the support.
Best wishes
Ian
