EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
HI Nicholas,
I trust all is well with you - I have a question regarding Wordpress and Joomla: I have client who is looking to migrate his site from Wordpress to Joomla. He has a recent backup taken with Akeeba Backup (Wordpress) and I was wondering about using it to assist in the migration.

I realise that file structures will be different etc. but if I could use it to restore say just the database there are a number of migration extensions about e.g. JConverter but they seem to require that the databases are on the same server which I may (or may not) be able to achieve via a simple Db backup and restore.

Is my thinking well off track here? Your thoughts would be appreciated...

Akeeba Backup takes a backup of a site for you to restore it somewhere else. It cannot move your data between Joomla! versions, WordPress versions or from WordPress to Joomla! and vice versa.

That said: You can use Akeeba Backup for WordPress to backup your site and restore it on a local server. Then you can install Joomla! and JConverter (or any similar extension) to convert your site to Joomla!. Now you can use Akeeba Backup for Joomla! to back it up and restore it on a live server.

HI Nicholas,

Excellent - thank you for your clarity! That's is exactly what I thought but it is invaluable to have your confirmation.

One final question - I hold a "deluxe" subscription with you - does this include the Wordpress version of the akeeba backup or would I need another subscription?

No, Deluxe only includes our Joomla! software. You need a BACKUPWP subscription to get access to Akeeba Backup for WordPress. Since you are already a DELUXE subscriber you will get a 40% discount automatically when you try purchasing a BACKUPWP subscription.
