EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
I have a site that I was trying to migrate from 2.5.22 to 3.3.6.
I backed up the site then updated all extensions as well as joomla to 2.5.28
I should have made another backup but I did not _Shame on me!!
When I performed the migration I lost the front end of the site completely.
From the backend I switched templates to Beez3 and part of the site came back but I still had many issues so I tried to restore the site from my backup.
All seemed to go well and the front end of the site seems normal but when I try to access the backend, I get this error: Fatal error: Call to undefined method JAdministrator::setHeader() in /home/macatawa/public_html/libraries/cms/html/behavior.php on line 712
The site rl is: http://surrealrealities.com

I sure hope you can help
Thanks

Bob,

You can't restore a 2.5.x backup over a 3.3.x site. You need to delete the 3.3.x files and drop the tables, then restore the backup. It isn't a problem within a Joomla! family, you can restore a 2.5 site over another 2.5 site. But things moved between folders from 2.5 to 3.3 and everything isn't overwritten and files can end up in places that Joomla! doesn't expect them to be.

A couple of plugins drove me nuts with my conversions. There was a new version of the plugins for 3.x, so the pre-conversion update didn't get them where they needed to be.

Thank you for the tip. When you say "Drop the tables", do you mean to delete the database and start over or did you mean something else?

Thanks again.

Bob

No you don't need to delete the database, you can just delete (drop) the tables within the database, so the database is empty. You would do this with a database manager provided by your host, usually phpMyAdmin. This is probably overkill, but my paranoia has served me well over the years.

Am I correct in assuming I will loose all my articles, users, menus, etc?

dlb
Yes and no. Yes, dropping the tables will destroy all of that, but the purpose is to clear the way for the restore, which will bring them all back. I may not have been clear on that step, we need to clean house and restore your pre-upgrade backup again.
