Hi Nikolas,

I am having a rather strange issue which is not very common, I suppose, and as such something you may not have encountered before.

I am currently travelling, and I am staying at a hotel. I have a site I am working on which is almost ready to deploy, but I am having enormous trouble restoring the site from the Akeeba Backup because the hotel's network has a very odd setup in which the public/WAN IP address refreshes every 1-3 seconds. This is really a huge problem, because it appears that the ANGIE script does some IP verification and before I get a chance to progress, I keep getting a notice that the installer is locked and that I need to input my password to unlock it.

Now, I don't even know if I would have this problem if the installer didn't have a password, because I can't seem to save a backup without a password (I have looked at the various tickets and guides regarding this). The configuration password field is empty, and I don't enter a password in the password field at the launch of a new backup. However, the installer claims to be password protected, and entering my normal password does get me to the next screen.

However, that's where the fun starts. Often times, I am unable to extract the database because by the time I click on the start button, the IP has changed and I am asked to unlock to proceed. If, however, I do extract the database, I almost always will be forced to unlock, either on the next step or the one right after it, depending on how fast I get to input any needed data.

Is there any way to disable the IP verification, because I don't know if simply finding a solution to not have the installer password protected will resolve my issue.

FYI, I have a Pro version of both Akeeba for Joomla and kickstart.

The subject of this ticket was supposed to be "IP Verification in Angie Installer". Somehow the IP dropped.

BTW, I also get logged out of your site constantly because of this same IP issue. There are a few other sites that do that as well, but most I do not have a problem with.

Your user session is tied to many things, one of which is your external IP address. This cannot and won't change. I'm pretty sure that you can simply tie a user session to a cookie and have everything work fine and dandy... at least if don't mind that the cookie cab be stolen by someone else on the same network, impersonating your user and stealing their information.

Hi Nicholas,

How and what would I need to "modify" in akeeba so that the embedded ANGIE installer can keep my session active at least long enough to be able to restore the site?

The IP verification really prevents me from being able to deploy?

Best regards,

Ali

You couldn't do that, since the installer is inside the backup archive. I think the simplest way for you to work around your constant IP address change is using a VPN or a proxy server. In this case your Internet-facing IP will be constant: the VPN gateway's or the proxy server's Internet-facing IP address.
