EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
How do I completely remove and then reinstall akeeba backup?

I go to Extensions -> manage and I see several entries about akeeba. So I do not know what to remove.

When I run akeeba backup, it seems to work, but generates a .jpa that is very small and many many .j## (where ## is a number).

When I try to run Update, it gives me some error.

We can uninstall, but it is easier to fix your archive size issue than it is to uninstall and reinstall. Note that if you uninstall, you will lose all your settings and probably all your stored backups as well.

To set the archive part size, go to Configuration, Archiver Engine, press the Configure button on that line and set the "Part size for split archives" field.

You were not very specific about your update problem, but I think I know what it is. Go to Plugins and disable the System - System Restore Points plugin. You should then be able to upgrade to RC3, once you do that, you can enable the plugin again. The problem is fixed in RC3.

I did what you said and the issues are gone. However:

1) My .jpa backup files are about 130 mb. So I made the "Part size for split archives" to be about 250 mb. Is this correct?

2) I hade the impression that Joomla plus all components were automatically updated somehow, from one central point. Have we dissabled this? I noticed the JCE editor needs to be upgraded. Do I have to go to each component/plugin and check all the time?

2) Extentions -> Extension Manager -> Update. Got it.

Please answer #1 though.

Also, although I have updated akeeba backup to the latest version, I still see this on top:
An updated version of Akeeba Backup (4.1.0.rc3) is available for installation.

I click again on the update button, and then it says there is nothing to update.

There is no one right answer to question #1. On a 32 bit server there is a hard limit of 2 Gb per file. There is a similar limit for 64 bit servers, but I can't count that high. If you are moving your archive to cloud storage, some of the cloud storage services have maximum file size limits. Some hosts also have maximum file size limits. If you don't have any of these limitations to deal with, you can set the part size for 2 Gb (you have to set it in megabytes) and it will be a long time before it splits.

The Joomla! central update center is used by many programs, including JCE and Akeeba products. Some extensions do not use it.

On the Akeeba Backup screen, on the right side, click the black "Reload update information" button. That will make the update notice go away. Joomla! caches the update information and doesn't update the cache when you update the extensions. Some folks consider that a bug, others will simply tell you it is supposed to work that way. I'll just leave it at that.
