EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

I have been attempting to run an update on an Extension called DPCalendar. I fails each time with an error message:
JLIB_INSTALLER_ERROR_DOWNLOAD_SERVER_CONNECT

When using Google to search for an explanation Akeeba keeps coming up in relation to this message.

I have my system configured so Akeeba creates a restore point. I wondered if ther might be some connection as I and the suppliers of DPCalendar are having trouble finding an explanation.

One other point that might be relevant. I transferred my site (using Akeeba and Kickstart) to my current hosting company a few days ago. I wondered if some file locations might have changed?

No, God, no, Akeeba Backup IS NOT the source of your problems. The problem of the untranslated string is that Joomla! fails to load its library translation file under some circumstances. This is a bug which is already fixed in Joomla! 3.4 as far as I know. The conditions leading to this Joomla! bug are unlikely to occur when you're doing a direct installation, likely to occur on upgrades and very likely to occur when using the System Restore Points feature of Akeeba Backup. We have even included a workaround for that issue in our code... Everything you read on the web pointing to us is, simply put, wrong. Correlation does not equal causation. Akeeba Backup IS NOT preventing the installation of your updates, it simply uncovers a translation bug in Joomla!. The real problem lies with your hosting environment.

Regarding the real nature of this issue: your site cannot contact the extension's update site. You can disable the System - System Restore Points plugin and retry the update to get the exact error message. As I said, the error message is unrelated to Akeeba Backup. Once you get the complete, exact error message please file a ticket with SiteGround for further troubleshooting instructions.

Also, FYI, System Restore Points is scheduled to be removed in Akeeba Backup 4.2.0.

Thanks Nicholas. As I expected, you know more about this than most even if it is not an Akeeba problem as such!
I will do as you suggest and follow it up with some more detective work. Interesting that I also have that extension installed on my Joomla 3.3 site with the same hosting company and that seems to work OK.
Thanks again, as always.

I also found it strange that you have that issue on SiteGround. My guess is that they haven't updated OpenSSL on your server yet, but it's best to follow it up with them as I explained above. I can't debug server issues for servers I've not set up myself :D
