Description of my issue:

Hi Nick

I see some old posts about this and how it's a Joomla thing. I'm still seeing it quite regularly, and fixing it by reinstalling. It also seems to happen with Admin Tools, but far less frequently.

Is Joomla actually going to do anything about this do you know? I kind of gathered from your ticket replies that they were going to.

Cheers and keep up the great work!!

As far as I know there's nobody trying to fix installer issues.

We have all concluded that the extensions installer needs a rewrite from the ground up. I have even written a whitepaper on the architecture it should have. Here's the conundrum: we can't fix the current installer; the installer needs to be rewitten; writing a new installer is a backwards incompatible change, so it has to go in Joomla! 4; there is no plan for Joomla! 4 because other prerequisites have to be implemented or at least tried before anyone can have an intelligent discussion of what Joomla! 4 should and can look like. Basically, this issue is stuck in limbo because there are other higher priority issues in need of immediate attention.

On top of that, the issue is intermittent which makes it difficult to properly debug (I only have an educated guess of what's causing it) and impossible to test a fix. If a fix can't be tested it won't be merged to Joomla!. Try to fix it blindly, risk introducing a new bug. Don't try to fix it, you have an issue. Talking about being stuck between a rock and a hard place!
