Description of my issue: system restore backup fails
Backup Failed
The backup operation has been halted because an error was detected.
The last error message was:
AJAX Loading Error
HTTP Status: 500 (Internal Server Error)
Internal status: error
XHR ReadyState: 4

not sure what to do as the std backup seems to work

I thought that only happened in RC1.
  1. Disable the System Restore Point plugin
  2. Upgrade to RC3 - the release is immanent, tonight or tomorrow
  3. You can then re-enable the System Restore Point plugin
