Description of my issue:
I have Joomla 3.3 installed with Gantry 1.4. I have tried to install Akeeba 3.11.4 using the zip file and it says that there was an error during installation and the install fails.

I installed Joomla 3.2 with a RocketTheme launcher that included a template called hadron. Once it was installed I upgraded to Joomla 3.3.

I know it is something I am doing wrong so apologies in advance.

Thank you

Zoe

The packages of our latest versions of our components are rather big. Since the default maximum upload size on most servers is just 2Mb this may cause an upload error. The best solution is to ask your host to set the following in the server's php.ini:
upload_max_filesize = 10M
post_max_size = 10M

If this is not possible, there's a good chance that the following lines in your .htaccess file may work on most servers:
php_value upload_max_filesize 10M
php_value post_max_size 10M

There is also another alternative, but it won't work on all hosts: installation by URL. Please go to the Download section of our site and select the software and version you want to download. Next to the "Download now" button you will see a link called "DirectLink". Right click on it and select "Copy link address" (the exact phrase depends on the browser, but it should have to do about copying the link or its address / URL / location).

Now go to your site's back-end, Extensions, Extensions Manager and find the Install from URL field. Note: on Joomla! 3.x you have to click on the "Install from URL" tab to see that field. Replace the contents of the "Install URL" field with the contents of your clipboard (the DirectLink URL you copied above) and click on the "Install" button next to this textbox. As long as your server supports installing extensions from URL the installation should go through.

If this still doesn't help you can always follow the manual installation instructions in our troubleshooting documentation.

Hello Dale,

Thank you very much.
Writing to the htaccess did not work but uploading using a direct URL did and Akeeba is now installed but not configured.

Message now reads
--Configuration Wizard Failure

Akeeba Backup could not find a writable output and temporary directory. Please give write permissions to the administrator/components/com_akeeba/backup directory and run this wizard again.
--

I changed the permissions to 777 on the folder listed above but it still wont run the configuration script :^((

Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you very much for your quick response.

Zoe,

I'm glad you got the installation issue worked out.

Does the Config Wizard error happen right away or does it run for a while first?

Hi Dale,

It runs for a while, it goes to about line three on the progress bars.

Thanks

Can you post a screen shot of the error message please?

Hi Dale,

I think I have sorted it. I tried a backup and it said there was an AJAX error. I went into the manual config area and set the output to IFRAME and not Ajax and I have managed to do 2 backups, one after the other. I will of course need to check the jpa file but I think it might be sorted.

Thank yuo very much for your help, I really appreciate not feeling alone! Thank you for all your suggestions they helped a great deal!

I'm glad you got it working.

The Config Wizard can be hard on your server. It does a series of tests to see where it can find limits in your hosting setup and adjusts the Backup settings accordingly. These tests sometimes trigger your host's security settings. The actual backup can also trigger the security alert. I want you to know what I was thinking in case it isn't really fixed.

Nicholas requested the screen shot, I'm not sure what he was looking for. (He needed the whole screen, not just the error message.)

If you run into any further trouble, just let us know.
