EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

I cannot install 3.11.3. I tried all methods: upload to Extension manager, install from URL, and manual install. In all cases, I get error 404 on this page:

http://www.cal-sailing.org/administrator/index.php?option=com_installer&view=install

At this point, Akeeba does not show under Components.

The packages of our latest versions of our components are rather big. Since the default maximum upload size on most servers is just 2Mb this may cause an upload error. The best solution is to ask your host to set the following in the server's php.ini:
upload_max_filesize = 10M
post_max_size = 10M

If this is not possible, there's a good chance that the following lines in your .htaccess file may work on most servers:
php_value upload_max_filesize 10M
php_value post_max_size 10M

There is also another alternative, but it won't work on all hosts: installation by URL. Please go to the Download section of our site and select the software and version you want to download. Next to the "Download now" button you will see a link called "DirectLink". Right click on it and select "Copy link address" (the exact phrase depends on the browser, but it should have to do about copying the link or its address / URL / location).

Now go to your site's back-end, Extensions, Extensions Manager and find the Install from URL field. Note: on Joomla! 3.x you have to click on the "Install from URL" tab to see that field. Replace the contents of the "Install URL" field with the contents of your clipboard (the DirectLink URL you copied above) and click on the "Install" button next to this textbox. As long as your server supports installing extensions from URL the installation should go through.

If this still doesn't help you can always follow the manual installation instructions in our troubleshooting documentation.

Yes, I did all of that, including the manual installation. They all failed the same way, with the 404 error referenced above.

I realized that this is the same problem we experienced installing 3.11.2 (ticket #30440). I tried that fix (manualling installing the f0f library, which by the way is still named fof in the zip), and doing a manual install of Akeeba), but it failed in exactly the same way.

Hello Peter,

can you please try to disable the plugin System - System Restore Points and try again?

I had already done that based on your troubleshooting info.

Akeeba backup is running on schedule. I have no idea which version. I can't get to the Akeeba control panel through Components.

petekuhn
You can close this. It's now upgraded and working.

I realized that in applying the fix for the problem we had in going to 3.11.2, I did one different thing. I renamed the fof directory to f0f in the akeeba extracted directory before uploading it to tmp (so I could manually install under libraries). I re-installed it into libraries/f0f, renamed tmp/akeeba/f0f to tmp/akeeba/fof, and reinstalled manually with Extension Manager. It worked.

dlb
I'm glad you got it working.

I'm concerned that you have had trouble with f0f twice in a row. You might use the Fix Permissions function in Admin Tools to eliminate that as a possible cause of the problem.

I have done that. We'll see with the next update. BTW, if this happens again, is there a log I can send you that would have some details on the failure? When it happens, I lose the Akeeba control panel. Can I pull it out of the file system?

petekuhn
FYI - I got the same error (404) installing Admin Tools Pro 3.0.3. However, in this case, the install worked, and I did not lose the Admin Tools Control Panel.

dlb
Please check the server error log to see what file is throwing the 404 error. Most hosts give access to the server error log but how and where they are located varies from host to host. If you don't know where the error log is, you will need to check with your host and they can help you access it.
