EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue: How do you suggest moving a site where I am unable to perform a Backup of the latest version of the site?

Can you suggest some options for Godaddy customers to help them move their sites since backing up with Akeeba is not possible?

thanks

Akeeba Backup doesn't make backing up your site possible, it only makes it easier. You can always create a ZIP of your public_html's contents with cPanel's File Manager and create a SQL dump of your database using phpMyAdmin (also accessible through cPanel). When moving to a new host you simply extract the ZIP file into the new host's public_html and restore the SQL dump using phpMyAdmin – or ask your new host to do that for you if the file is rather large. Then you just need to edit your configuration.php file to reflect the new host's database connection information.

For detailed instructions please read the official Joomla! documentation page on moving your site.

Thank You. Can you also tell us what GoDaddy changed specifically on their servers to make Akeeba no longer work? I would like to file a complaint with them but know that it won't go anywhere unless I have some specifics of what changed on July 18th.

Thanks again.

This is what the engineers at GoDaddy are trying to find out right now. Since I can't know how their servers are configured I can't say for sure. I have my suspicions, I shared them with GoDaddy engineers, they are looking into it. That's all I can currently tell you.

OK. Please keep us posted. I would love to instead use Akeeba to package and transfer my sites to a new server if Godaddy enables Akeeba Backup to work again if at least only for a short time.

thanks

We are working on two different possibilities to help you guys not having to switch hosts.

For starters, we are in contact with GoDaddy trying to find what caused the problem.

In the meantime I am working on the possibility to have the backup auto-resume after failure. This would allow back-end backups to run even when server restrictions kill them, as long as the problem wasn't a backup part size issue or a server timeout. In theory it should be possible and should work. However, until it's written and tested I can't promise it is a viable solution.

GoDaddy notified us yesterday that they found the problematic patch on their servers and are rolling it back. Akeeba Backup should work on their servers by Monday evening at the latest.
