Dear Support Team,

for me its no longer possible to update akeeba (admin tools and akeeba backup) through the joomla update. Every time I get the error:

JLIB_INSTALLER_ERROR_DOWNLOAD_SERVER_CONNECT

Fehler

Paketdownload fehlgeschlagen: https://www.akeebabackup.com/component/ars/?view=download&id=2720&dlid=&dummy=my.zip&dlid=xxxxx

Thats on every website, with every hosting account.
I have to download it from the website and upload it manually every time.
Is there a chance to install updates via a klick in the joomla updater?

by the way there is no email message anymore for updating admin tools and akeeba backup. I thought Akeeba CMS Update will show an email message for akeeba tools also, but it wont. Is there a chance receiving email update messages?

Thanks for your help.

The Download IDs have changed twice, once in December 2013 and once in March 2013. Moreover, your Download IDs change whenever you are changing your password, resetting your password (even if you do keep the same password as before) or changing your email address. Please update the Download ID in the software installed on your sites according to our instructions.

This is correct. This feature was removed around April 2014 from all our software. There were too many people who didn't understand that the email was sent by their own site (even when the email was very explicit about it) and accused us of spamming them, usually in VERY colourful words. Since we can neither take abuse nor fix cognitive impairment in this very vocal minority of users we simply removed this feature.

I thought Akeeba CMS Update will show an email message for akeeba tools also, but it wont.

No, of course not. Akeeba CMS Update only updates the Joomla! CMS itself.

There is a hidden feature which does the same, shipped in our latest software. There are CLI scripts for use with CRON jobs (on servers which support them) in the cli directory of your site. Their names are like akeeba-update.php, admintools-update.php and so on. They also allow you to automatically install the updated versions of our components (zero clicks!). But since we have to also deal with the aforementioned cognitively challenged minority we decided to not document them. You can set them up just like any other CRON job.

For example, for Akeeba Backup just follow the instructions for setting up a CRON job for the native backup script. Instead of cli/akeeba-backup.php use cli/akeeba-update.php in the CRON command line. Look in the Component Parameters (Options) page for the configuration of this feature. You can choose between email notification, automatic installation or both.

Dear Nicholas,
great! Thanks a lot for this detailled answer and support!

I will change my Download IDs and will try to execute CRON-Jobs.
