EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
Hello,

I have been using Akeeba with Watchfulli for a few weeks. Recently my scheduled backups for my Jommla! 1.5.26 sites have been failing to transfer to Dropbox. They sometimes fail the transfer completely or half transfer (for split backups). Any ideas?

Can you please ZIP and attach your backup log file? If the file is too big, please upload it to your Dropbox' Public folder and paste a link here. We need the log file to provide accurate assistance. Thank you in advance!

Thank you for that! I can see that your backup is 290190223 bytes or 276.75 Mb long. However the maximum file size supported by the Dropbox API is only 100Mb. You need to go to the Configuration page, find the Archiver Engine row, click on the Configure button next to it and in the pane which opens below set the Part Size for Split Archives to 100Mb or less.

According to your log file the backup was successful, all backup parts were uploaded to Dropbox, old files were removed from Dropbox and the backup archives which have already been transferred to Dropbox have been removed from your server.

The problem you have is that Watchful.li expects a newer version of Akeeba Backup with a slightly different JSON API than the ancient version you have on your outdated Joomla! 1.5 site. As a result, it gets stuck on the last step of the backup process until it decides to stop trying.

Unfortunately, this is something which cannot be fixed. Actually, it is something which HAS been fixed, but not for Joomla! 1.5. Since the version you are using has been end of life for two years we won't provide any update to it. The good news is that your backup DOES WORK, it's Watchful.li which doesn't see that it did work.

Nicholas,

The sire that I provided logs are did not completely transfer over to dropbox. It should have sent three files and only two of them made it. Are you saying that it doesn't transfer because watchfulli is seeing it as complete? A bit more clarification would be very helpful.

Thank you,

Here are the backend logs.

No, there are only two files created with extensions .zip and .z01. Only two files created, only two files transferred.

Nicholas,

There must be something going on somewhere. I had a file with extension .zip2 left over on the server. It was transferred today. Here are the logs.

.zip2 is not a file extension which is created by Akeeba Backup.

Sorry,

I meant .z03

According to the backend log file you only have two parts, that is .zip and .z01. So when you take a backup from the backend you will only see TWO files being transferred.

However, the backup taken with Watchful.li (the JSON API log file) results in three part files, that is .zip, .z01 and .z02. According to the log file all THREE part files have been transferred.

The difference in size (therefore the difference in the number of part files) has to do with the fact that Watchful.li doesn't support the JSON API of the very old Akeeba Backup version you are using on your site. As a result, some of your filters are not being applied. As explained in my previous reply this is not something which can be fixed because you are using an outdated, unsupported version of Akeeba Backup.

Nicholas,

Thank you for helping me with this issue. What other post processing engine would you recommend for Joomla! 1.5.x sites? Would Box.net be viable?

Thank you,

No, Box.net was in the meantime renamed to Box.com AND they killed off their old API which is used by the old version of Akeeba Backup you've got. The post proc engine I whole-heartedly recommend is Amazon S3. Nothing is more stable than that. You can use the free of charge Cyberduck software for Mac OS X and Windows to connect to it and transfer the files to your computer. This is what we are using for our site as well.
