EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
I had a backup yesterday and it was around 1GB.

I downloaded images and optmised them.

I compared the two (optimised and the non-optimised) on my local system.

The optimised images are reduced in size by 50% after comparison.

I then uploaded(FTP) them on to the server and override the existing images...

I was expecting that the overall size of the site will be reduced down to 500MB

But it is doubled for some reason.

Would you know how I can check what is causing this?

Where could I have done wrong?

Thank you.

It sounds like you have picked up a backup file in your backup. Akeeba Backup will exclude the files in the current output directory from the backup. If you moved a backup file, for example restored the site and didn't delete the backup archive in the root, that could cause what you're seeing. If you change the output directory and leave an old backup in the old directory, it will be included in the backup.

Are you sure you uploaded your files to the right directory? If you created a new directory under the directory that you intended to load them into, that could account for the space difference.

You can look at the backup log and search for "large" looking for "large file" or "large directory" and that might show you where the problem is.

I have deleted all the backups and done the backup again. The result is the same.

Are you sure you uploaded your files to the right directory?

Yes I have also checked to make sure I have uploaded it to the right directory but the problem is still there.

Ok
I figured it out.

Before I download the image files, I zipped them to be able to download them faster.

I forgot to delete the zip file on the server!

Looking up the large files in the server log helped me !

Thanks.
