copy.com, like many similar services, does not provide and adequate API for end user applications to use its services unattended. The only solution would be to have you manually log in to our site, manually authorize yourself to copy.com allowingour site to use it on your behalf, have your backup uploaded to our server and have us to upload your backup to copy.com. The major problems are:
  • For each and every backup you would have to be in front of your computer, authorizing the application. This defeats the prupose of automated backups.
  • We would be given control of your copy.com account with serious privacy and security implications.
  • You would need to use bandwidth on our servers to perform your backups, which means that we'd have to charge you for it. Since we can't buy bandwidth and servers as cheaply as, say, Amazon you would end up with a solution that costs about 50x to 100x more than Amazon S3, completely nullifying the point of using copy.com

We strongly recommend using Amazon S3. Nobody can beat their prices for file storage. At 15Gb you'd end up paying about $1.50 per month or $18 per year. This is more than enough space to have daily backups of the past 30 days and the first backup taken on each month for the past two years stored at any time for a typical medium sized site with a backup of about 300Mb. We consider this amount for this use case to be trivial, representing less than 10% of your site's fixed costs (domain name, hosting, software licenses).
