Description of my issue:
I think Akeeba Backup is part of the problem because it started after changes in the restorepoints software.
When I try to update Joomla versie 2.5.14 to 2.5.17 I get the "internal server error when updating Joomla! "

In the browser I see:
option=com_akeeba&view=backup&autostart=1&returnurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.brainy.nl%2Fadministrator%2Findex.php%3Foption%3Dcom_joomlaupdate%26task%3Dupdate.install%26is_backed_up%3D1

The error log is to big to open, I posted a ticket to my hoster for that already.
When I enable show error's within Joomla I just get the same page without errors.

I know the is a chance it's not up to Akeeba, but still it's strange to me it started after the change that the Joomla update button disappeared from your software.

We released Akeeba Backup 3.9.2 just a few hours ago which should fix this issue.

If the backup on update fails, please try disabling the "System - Backup on update" plugin and you will be able to update your site without a problem.

FWIW, I am about to release a new component for Joomla! updates. If you liked what we used to have in Admin Tools you'll love the new component. I've tried to take into account all crazy server configurations I've seen the last 7+ years and all the issues I've heard about the Joomla! update features in Admin Tools and the core Joomla! Update component. Of course the new component will be free of charge :)

Hi Nicholas,
Thanks for your answer. To update Joomla from 2.5.14 to 2.5.17, and Akeeba backup and tools I had indeed to disable the system-backup on update and the system-restore points plugin.
But then still I had to update Joomla!, backup and tools by had (file upload). But at least now the backup ends without error again.
So now I must wait until next update to see if everything is working fine again by clicking the update buttons..

I saw your new component en testdrive it a bit, looking forward to it to simplify my Joomla life ;)

Akeeba Backup 3.9.2 has fixed the problems with the System Restore Points. You should not have any similar issues with future updates.

Regarding the Akeeba CMS Update component, any feedback is more than welcome!
