EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
Hi. I keep getting an error when I try to preform a backup.
I have tried it menu times in the last two days and I always get the same error.
I did not find any references in your documentation.

See attached screenshot.

I am not sure what is your real PHP version. Your host has made PHP report "5.4.42-servage13". The problem is that at the time of this writing (December 27th, 2013) the latest released PHP 5.4 version is 5.4.23. The software running on your server is lying profusely about its version. This is not a supported environment. We cannot promise that our software, or Joomla!, will work without any issues on this server. Please contact your host about it.

Back to your issue. I think that the problem is that your server is using a proxy in front of your site. While PHP is allowed to run up to 40 seconds, the proxy seems to be timing out at 10 seconds. So, let's go to the Akeeba Backup Configuration page. Down at the bottom set:
- Minimum execution time: 1 second
- Maximum execution time: 7 seconds
- Runtime bias: 50%
and retry backing up. If the backup fails please attach the new log file.

Hi Nicolas. Thank you for for effort. I upgraded Akeeba to 3.9.2 pro.
After setting up according to your instructions, I get a different kind of error.
But now I do get a backup file, but I don't know if I can trust it because of the error.
I am trying to attach a screen shot of the error and the log (zip), but I keep getting "attachment upload error" in your site...

I think that your attachment is a bit too big. However, as you're using Dropbox, you can share the attachment with me very easily:
  • Save it on your Dropbox folder
  • Wait fro Dropbox to sync (its icon stops animating)
  • Open Windows Explorer (Windows), Finder (Mac OS X) or Nautilus (Ubuntu Linux) and navigate inside the folder where you uploaded the file.
  • Right click on the ZIP file and click on "Share Dropbox link". It copies a special, public link to this file in your clipboard.
  • Now come back to our site and paste me the link.

There is no limit on the size or type of file when you do that :)

OK, I see what is going on. You have a timeout error while the file was still being uploaded to Dropbox. Don't worry, we can work around that.

Go to Akeeba Backup's Configuration page. Find the Archiver Engine row and click on Configure. Set the Part size for Split Archives to 10 Mb.

Find the Post-processing Engine (where you have selected Dropbox) and click on Configure. Uncheck the box titled "Enable chunk upload".

Now retry your backup. The backup will upload in several 20Mb files to Dropbox. Once you have this working you can try increasing the Part size for Split Archives. When the backup fails again you will have to decrease it a bit. The exact value that works for your site depends on your server. Usually, values between 10 and 20Mb work best.
