Description of my issue:
I have a client who has a joomla 1.5 website. I am trying to migrate the site to J3.2.

At some point, they had akeeba backup installed but at the moment this is what I am getting when I click on Components/Akeeba backup:
404 - An error has occurred.

Should I download the version below, install it and backup the site?
https://www.akeebabackup.com/download/akeeba-backup/akeeba-backup-3-4-3.html

I am scared that it may break the site...

I will need to perform a backup somehow either by using akeeba backup or should I simply use hosting/control panel to finalise a backup of this site?

The reason I need to back up the site is because I do not know what else might be wrong with this site.

I will need to export the data (articles and users) usingj2xml extension so it may break this site if I install it without a proper backup...

Thank you.

Yes, that's exactly what you have to do.

I have installed it and now I am getting the error below whilst accessing the component/akeebabackup:
This web page has a redirect loop

Please switch to a different browser or clear your browser cache, completely quit and re-open your browser. Joomla! 1.5 had a bug with the redirection HTTP code it generated (it generated a permanent redirection instead of a temporary one). I have already sent a patch to the Joomla! project a few years ago and it was included in Joomla!... apparently not in the version you are using. It's been a while (2 years?), I really don't remember which Joomla! version had the fix built in.

Sorry, no ideas. Also no way to test: the last time I had a Joomla! 1.5 site for testing was over a year ago.

Can I please see the patch that you have sent them? Where can I find this? I would like to try this at least. If it doesnt work, oh well. Too bad :)

I feel embarrassed that people actually have j1.5 running. It is almost 2014! :)

Wow, it looks like my patch was sent over three years ago and it took almost a full year to be included. See http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/tracker/?action=TrackerItemEdit&tracker_item_id=21622&start=0 However, that would mean that your version of Joomla! already has it.

There is one more thing you can do. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the component.

This didn't fix the problem as well. Although I can see the successful message after installing the component, it just doesnt wana let me in to the component :)

Since the bug is only for google chrome and safari.

I tried it on Firefox= didn't fix the problem.
Tried it on internet explorer. didn't fix the problem also.

I suspect something's wrong with the site itself. First try disabling all system plugins except those shipped with Joomla! itself. If this doesn't help, you're probably better off taking a manual backup of the site's files and database.

Thank you.

I do not want to waste my time fixing the site. :)
