EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Hello, I have found a few others having an issue with trying to update an extension and getting the following error message "invalid controller: name='akeeba', format=''"

I tried following all the instructions posted in each ticket I could find, I disabled the restore point plugin, cleared caches but no matter what I do when I try to update the component, which is the " install from web" component.

The strangest thing is that even though I disable the restore point plugin and even click on the "back to standard installer" the akeeba back up still performs a backup before trying to update the extension. The green success message will pop up then it gets replaced by the error message "invalid controller: name='akeeba', format=''"

What should I do? Am I missing something?

You are on the right track, disabling the System - System Restore Points plugin is the correct answer. For some reason, you are not successfully disabling the plugin.

Go to Extensions, Plug-in Manager, type "restore" in the filter field and Search. Only one plugin should be listed. Click on the green check mark in the Status column and it should turn into a red circle. That should do it.

Note that you can re-enable that plugin after updating Akeeba Backup on the settings screen that shows the first time you try to access the component. Those are the only two places that you can easily change the status of that plugin.

Hello Dale,

Yes that is exactly what I am doing, I most definitely would not take up your time without making sure I did this first, I made sure the plugin "System - System Restore Points" is showing a red x, I even clicked into the plugin to make sure it said unpublished. Yet when I go to update the component that I need to update, the Akeeba backup still kicks in and performs a backup before trying to install the update, then for a few seconds it turns green saying "Update successful" but then immediately changes and I get the error message? And the system still says the update needs to be performed even after dumping the caches.

This is what is not making sense to me, if the plugin is not enabled and I am even clicking on the "back to standard installer" before performing the update you would assume that the restore point backup would not start up yet it does and ultimately I get the error message.

I even have a video screenshot showing the issue that you can download at the link below. I tried to attach it but you do not allow video uploads.

Thank you for your time.

It's a zombie! It just won't die!

I'll ask our friendly neighborhood zombie killer (Nicholas) to take a look. :-)

Here is Nicholas' reply:
Yes, he has a code cache, most likely XCache (many hosts have started enabling it by default, without realizing what they are doing!). He should ask his host for a way to reset or suspend the code cache.
