EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

As mentioned in the docs I add my download-id. Looks like it is not saved, every time I start Akeeba it asks to enter the download-id. What did I miss?

  1. That message does not go away even if you have a proper Download ID loaded. Are you sure you have a problem?
  2. Your main Download ID will change if you change your password on our site. Please copy and paste it from the "My" screen on our site. Make sure you are not getting a leading or trailing space.
  3. There is a fairly rare 3.2 bug that will cause this behavior, but I'm pretty sure that is not the case here. The bug is host-related and I'm pretty sure SiteGround is not affected.

I'm quite sure I did fill in the correct download-id in the Component Parameters field.
However: every time I start Akeeba the message that I still have to fill in the id is shown.

My site is 3.2, indead with SIteGround. In their Amsterdam data-center. How can I check the fairly rare 3.2 bug does not affect me?

To be sure my download-id is correct: on the same server I have also a 2.5.16 site. When entering the download-id in that site it is accepted and shown when I look into the Component Parameters

In my 3.2 site that field stays empty. Look like Akeeba has no write permision for the configuration file.

Frank,

This particular bug in 3.2 would prevent you from saving settings in any extension or in Joomla! itself. My understanding is that it hits about 3% of the users, it is host related and it is driving the developers crazy because they can't reproduce it.

Please install Admin Tools twice, back to back. Do not uninstall the component, that will cause you to lose all of your settings. What I'm trying to fix with this is the possibility of a partial installation of Admin Tools.

I've done what you but the result is the same: the download-id will not be saved.

Nasty problem. Good luck finding the solution!

Frank, I messed up, I apologize. I told you to install Admin Tools twice, but you are having the issue with Backup. I want you to install Backup twice, back to back.

Just in case you did what I wanted you to do instead of what I told you to do, the next step is to uninstall and reinstall the component. For Backup, you can export your backup profiles and then import them again after you reinstall. That limits the settings that you lose with the reinstall.

Once again, I apologize for my confusion. The previous Download ID problem that I handled was with Admin Tools. :-(

Just to be sure I already reinstalled both Backup and Admin tools for the second time; no difference as I told.

Frank

dlb
Did you uninstall Backup, then reinstall?

No. Installed it on top of the first installation

Frank

dlb
OK, please uninstall Backup, then reinstall it. The uninstall wipes out all the files and folders, database tables, everything. The reinstall starts it from scratch. In previous cases, that has fixed the Download ID problem.

As I said previously, you will lose the settings in Backup, so you can export your backup profiles before you uninstall to save them.

Did what you asked but the result is the same: download-id is not saved.

Other tricks?

Frank

dlb
Yes, one more trick. It is time to ask Nicholas to look at this.

OK, Nicholas thinks it may be the 3.2 bug. It seems it is not as host dependent as I thought. Please make a change to a user account, any change will do. You can change the default editor for example. Save the change and exit the edit screen. Go back in to the edit screen, is the change still there?

Are you using Joomla!'s cache function? You can see that under Global Configuration, System, Cache Settings.

Changing u user: no problem. Saved with other editor, changed it back, all works

The cache was enabled, progressive
Tuned it down to conservative: same problem, not allowed to save the download-id.

DIsabled the cache ant to my surptise: the download-id is saved now!
It's a work around but will you give an idea where to look for the solution, it has something to do with the cache mechanism!

Thanx for helping

Frank

dlb
You are welcome! I'm sorry it was such a long road to a solution.

This is the 3.2 bug. Turning the cache off has had some success in working around it. My understanding is that it is unlikely to be fixed in 3.2.1 because they are still trying to figure out what triggers it and 3.2.1 is considered an urgent update. If you turn your cache back on it will work, but you will have problems saving options in other locations besides Akeeba products.
