EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:My English is not to well (sorry about that) but my provider told me to contact you because they couldn't solve the problem. When I make a backup everytime the backup stops when a part (mostly 3/4) of the files is backupped. I have tried to put as much information in the zip file attached. The provider has chanced the .htaccess file with "php_value max_execution_time 60" but this doen't help either.

I hope you can give me some advise.

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

Ed Glas

Ed,

It has been a long time since I have seen this problem. I want to check with Nicholas to make sure I have the solution correct.

I am very delighted with this answer! I felt myself already a big dummie but this feels much better. I'll wait patiently for an answer.
Thanks very much!

The server and Akeeba Backup are not communicating properly on where the root of your site is located. Akeeba gets confused and tries to back up the entire server. In the log, where you see the files are being packed properly, that is your site. When you get into the open_basedir errors, Akeeba is trying to back up the rest of the server.

To fix this, you need to go to Configuration, Site Overrides and check the Site root override box. Then click the folder button next to the Force Site Root field and put the root of your site in that field. That should fix it!

Dear mr. Brackin, I changed the settings you mentioned however I was not sure about the right root but I tried a few. Unfortunately it didn't work out. The problem is still the same. I have again added the logfile and a screendump of the things I changed like you mentioned.
Thanks again!!

I'm Dale. Mr. Brackin was my grandfather, Chester McConathy Brackin. He died in 1957. :-)

We are almost there. What we need in that path field is the absolute path to the root of the server. The /home folder may be all you can see, but that is not in the root. Take a look at your Output folder in the Configuration screen, can you see the full path there? If not, take a look at your Global Configuration settings, the tmp and log paths, can you see the full path there?

Sorry Dale about misusing your name. This time I copied the link /home/hiscue.com/public_html/site/administrator/components/com_akeeba/backup to Force site root and it looks like it worked out wel this time. is there a way I can check if it worked out wel now? Again I have added the log file to this message, maybe You can see it.

Anyway THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH!!!! You have been a great help!!

Kind regards,

Ed

dlb
No Ed, it didn't work. But we're really close. Let's try this in the Force Site Root field:
/home/hiscue.com/public_html/site
Note that there is no trailing slash there.

What we got with the last one was just a back up of the backup directory. You did what I told you but I didn't explain what I wanted well enough. It worked out because I'm pretty sure you stumbled on to what we did wrong in the previous try.

You are most welcome, but I have to get it to work before I have been of any help.

Thank you Dale! But unfortunately it is still not working. Also ALICE gives an error so I have added a printscreen of this as well. I'm very sorry but still hope you can find a solution. :)

Kind regards,

Ed

dlb
Ed, is there actually a /0/ folder in the root of your site? I assumed it was not actually there because of the open_basedir errors.

Hello Dale, Yes there is. I don't know how it comes there because it is not a part of Joomla.

dlb
No wonder I can't get it to go away! :-)

For the short term, let's just exclude that folder from the backup. You will need to investigate or check with your host to find out why it is there.

To exclude the folder, go to Exclude data from the backup on the Backup Control Panel and select Files and Directories Exclusion. From the Subdirectories list on the left, find the /0 folder and click the "no" symbol on the far left of that line. The symbol will turn yellow. Now your backup should run.

Dear Dale I'm terribly sorry but I didn't know that this could be the problem. I did what you told me to do but this map is not shown in the exclude option in Akeeba. Shall I ask the provider to delete the 0 map? I just now tried to delete it but this doesn't happen.

dlb
Yes, the /0 folder is the problem with your backup. It appears you can't really back up any of the files within the folder, but Backup gets so many errors while trying that eventually it just gives up and throws an error. I do not recognize the files in that folder as files that belong to your website, but I don't know what they are or where they came from so be careful about deleting them.

I want to ask Nicholas to look at this again. He may have some insight on what is happening. It is pretty late now in his part of the world, he may not respond until tomorrow.

Please ask your provider if they know what this folder is and why you can see it but don't seem to have any rights to it.
