You can disable the System - Akeeba Backup Update Check plugin to prevent Akeeba Backup from sending you an email when an update is available. You can not disable the actual icon that tells you an update is available.
You are missing a lot of security updates by running that antique version of Joomla! You are about three versions behind on Backup. The 5.2.x version of php is end of life and full of security vulnerabilities. All of them run just fine, but you are asking for trouble on the security side.

Joomla! 2.5.1 is insecure and the instructions to hack it are public information since two years ago. Due to the nature of this hack nothing can protect you against it, not even Admin Tools. There are also two dozen security updates in the meantime.
PHP 5.2 has been end of life since January 11th, 2011. That's nearly three years which, in computer terms, is a lifetime. PHP 5.2 is ripe with huge security issues. Just take a look at php.net for more information.
Your Akeeba Backup version is not designed to run on PHP 5.2 and is, in fact, incompatible with it. I am surprised that you have it installed, let alone imply that you're using it. You can't be using it! Akeeba Backup 3.5.0 and later just doesn't work on PHP 5.2, it's as simple as that.
You are running a VERY INSECURE site. You WILL get hacked. Please do yourself a favour and watch my latest security presentation. Remember that the way you're running your site you WILL get hacked and it won't be the fault of Joomla!, Admin Tools or anyone else except you and only you. Security is a process, not something you install and forget about it for years to come.
