EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Apologies, I can't add the log file, as was forced to do a restore, before I arrived at this site.

A lot of people have had issues with Joomla 3.2 including me. I checked some errors on the Rockettheme forum and they now recommed staying with Joomla 3.1.6 until a lot of the bugs have been sorted.

This now apparently means that I can't update to 3.9/3.1 of AkeebaBackup as everytime I tried, it caused the Update page in the main installation component to go blank. When I reverted to the previous version 2.8.2, I did not have any problems.

Given that there are issues with Joomla 3.2, I am very disappointed to read that you will no longer support the previous 3.1.6 version. What I need is a fix for the blank page problem and acceptance that not all is well for all people using version 3.2 of Joomla..

David

This is a problem that occurred today with the 3.9.0 version. The fix was released this afternoon, in version 3.9.1.

You will need to disable the System - System Restore Points plugin to get your Extension Manager screen back. Then you can manually install the 3.9.1 update to correct the errors. Some users have reported that Live Update is trying to "upgrade" them to 3.9.0 even after installing 3.9.1. This situation will correct itself in 8-12 hours without any action on your part.

Hi Dale

Thanks for the info.

I did as you siggested. After installation, I activated the System Restore Points plugin again and get the following when I go the update page:
Fatal error: Call to undefined method JAdministrator::getBody() in /home/domain/domain/plugins/system/srp/srp.php on line 369

When I turn off the Plugin, everything works fine.

Is this the new feature: no restore points? :-)

Please read the text in our download page, or the release notes (which were available for you to read in Live Update, before upgrading) before upgrading Akeeba Backup. As clearly noted, Akeeba Backup 3.9.X is not compatible with the old, vulnerable and obsolete Joomla! versions 3.0 OR 3.1

You can downgrade to Akeeba Backup 3.8.2 (not recommended) or upgrade your site to Joomla! 3.2 (very strongly recommended). Joomla! 3.1 is end of life, this is why it is no longer supported. Our policy has always been that we only support the current LTS and STS version of Joomla! which, at the time of this writing, are 2.5 and 3.2 respectively.

As to your template provider, I am using a RocketTheme template on my development Joomla! 3.2 site since one month ago, when the Joomla! 3.2 alpha was released. I don't have any problems. Further to that: RocketTheme, just like all developers, had 2 months to test their software with Joomla! 3.2 as the release date was pushed back from September to November. Moreover Joomla! published an alpha, two betas and an RC of Joomla! 3.2. The changes between 3.1 and 3.2 are minimal, mostly having to do with the rewrite of JApplication to extend JApplicationWeb instead of being a bespoke mess of slapped together code. Changes to let the software conform to the new Joomla! version only take one or two days, while replying to support requests. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Granted, the enhanced JLayouts may be more challenging but JLayouts have been announced 9 months ago and the changes to Joomla! 3.2 views have been around for nearly 4 months. Where were they all that time?

At some point you, the users, have to exert pressure to extension developers –including template developers– to provide support for the upcoming Joomla! versions. I can't possibly be the only extensions developer who downloads the latest Joomla! branch from Git and test my software against it! Forward compatibility, when spread in the span of 6+ months, is dead easy and only takes roughly half hour every week. I know that because I do that. So, please, just voice your concerns to your component, module, plugin and template developers. Let them know that your business depends on Joomla! and you can't afford to run an obsolete, vulnerable version of the software because they don't bother doing their due diligence on time. It really boils down to that.

Hi Nick

Thanks for your comments.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, although I regularly update everything on my sites, I do have to live with the consequences when something doesn't work. At present, it seems to be related primarily to Rockettheme Templates. I will complain again, and - if I may - I'd like to quote your comments regarding the timeline.

Yes, please do! I am always cringing when my clients tell me that they are forced to stay on an obsolete and vulnerable Joomla! version because developer X's products don't work with the new release. With timed releases it's dead easy to predict when a new Joomla! release will be out. It doesn't take a business genius to figure out that if the release date is set around mid-September they should at least start taking a look at it around early August.
