Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting? yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? yes
Joomla! version: (unknown)2.5.14
PHP version: (unknown)5.3.1
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you)netfirms
Akeeba Backup version: (unknown)3.7.10

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:I have recently changed my php on my online server to 5.3.1 and my localhost is 5.3.1 also. So I upgraded my backup to 3.7.10 on program on localhost and online server. I did backup on localhost and went to install with kickstart. I used to use 3.32 but went with 3.7.1 cause when I tried 3.3.2 kickstart.php I got this error
Could not open /hermes/bosoraweb090/b429/nf.saveinbc/public_html/calgaryareaauto.ca/phpinfo.php for writing.
so I went with 3.7.1 kickstart.php but got the same issue. Could you help me out on this. I never had this happen when I was using 5.2 version php.
I have attached a picture from the web for the error plus another of the log for the back up.
have a great day!!

Are you sure that php version of 5.3.1 is right? That was a very early release in the 5.3 serieis and not one of their better offerings. It is a very buggy version.

This may be a permission problem trying to overwrite an existing file on the site. phpinfo.php is a diagnotic file, not actually part of your site. You can try using Kickstart's ftp mode, that handles permissions better on some servers.

I am using for localhost xampp 1.7.3 that says it is 5.3.1 and the server says it is 5.3.13. I am going to eliminate the files and tables and restart the process. Maybe it is a legacy from 5.2 php.
Not sure.

If i have further issues, I will get ahold. Thanx a million for getting back so quick

Any version 5.3.5 and higher is in the "stable" range. But the whole 5.3 series is nearing end of life. We need to think about moving to 5.4. :-)

I think eliminating those files will solve the problem.

I got kickstart to unpack and get me to the restoration process, but it does not matter what I do and I know I have all the information correct for server name, user name, password and database name for the data base, but it does not matter what I do it comes back and says it cannot connect to database.
I checked the prerquesits and they are all as should be. Should I try kickstart 3.32 instead of 3.7.1. Or try to backup the site and try restore again.

I am at a loss. i have never had this problem before.

dlb
Kickstart is merely the unpacker. Once the archive is extracted, Kickstart hands off to the installer script, which is embedded in your backup archive. The version of the installer is a function of the version of Akeeba Backup that did the backup. Changing Kickstart will not help at the point in the installation that you are now.

An "is it plugged in?" quesiton - the installer usually can not create the database, you have to do that manually prior to starting the installation. Did you create the database and user?

Many hosts prefix the database name and database user name that you cretaed with your host user name. So if you create a database "bar" on a host where the host user name is "foo" you will end up with a real database name "foo_bar".

I have used the same data base information that I have always used when I used version 3.4.3 and used 3.3.2 as kickstart. The names on my site have not changed.
I never had this issue before. I am trying a new back up now and will use the latest version then we will see.

dlb
You said a couple of posts back that you were going to delete the tables. Did you drop the tables or the database? Dropping the tables was what you wanted to do in that case, but dropping the database would cause the current connection error.

Let me know how the new backup/restore goes.

I only dropped the tables not the database. I left the data base alone. I even created a new data base and tried that still no go. I am on the horn with netfirms my host. They are kinda stumped. could I if I am stuck send you the info and you can try. I think maybe program. I even backed it up again and tried a different backup. still no go.
what to do??

tracy14
I had the tech support team try the connection and they said it worked. It did restore my data base but when I tried to connect it said there was a data base connection error.
But they got it to connect they just did not finish off the restore steps at end. Could this be a windows 8 problem. I really need to get this system up and running

dlb
You would need to manually edit configuration.php and enter the database connection information, log and tmp paths. Check the $Live_Site variable if it is set on your local computer. That should be it for the config file. The reason you need to do that is because it is written after the database is restored and that is a missing step on your site at this point.

You should also check the output folder for Akeeba Backup, it may be wrong depending on how you have it entered.

I assume you are running Win8 on your local computer. No, that should not affect the restore on a commercial host.

I went and loaded the backup again into site and ran 3.3.2 on my old computer which uses windows xp. It loaded without difficulty. Bang it was done.

I am going to try it later on again from windows 8, if I have same problem, perhaps we can figure it out.
I have noticed that stuff on windows 8 is different. I have a site that uses google maps. On my laptop with windows 8 the mapping will not show the store on google map the screen is just grey for the map, if I go to my xp and look it works perfect. I have no idea how to deal with this.

I never had this issue when I restores using 3.4.3 version and 3.3.2 for kickstart.
Have things changed.

Also I am using xampp 1.7.3 it has php 5.3.1.. Would you suggest I move up a level for xampp and which one should I use. I have looked at some newer ones and I tried one but it was tough and would not go in right.

Talk to you later

Tracy

dlb
Tracy,

What operating system are you restoring to? My understanding was that you were restoring to a commercial server. If you are rstoring to XAMP on Win8 that is different.

These later problems are not from Kickstart. Kickstart just extracts the archive. The database connection would be tested and the database restored by the installation script. Yes, that could change with each version of Akeeba Backup. It would depend on the version when the site was backed up. The installer is embedded in the backup archive.

I can't tell you anything about XAMP, I'm running Ubuntu Server out of a virtual box for my local server.

I still need to go to my xp and do the restore. Windows 8 seems to be crazy.
