Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes.
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes.
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes.
Joomla! version: 2.5.14
PHP version: 5.3.27
MySQL version: 5.0.91
Akeeba Backup version: 3.8.1

Description of my issue:

When I updating from 3.8.1 to 3.8.2, it always fail many times. I tried to update it by Entension Manager and control panel of Akeeba Backup. It shows "An error has occurred Copy failed".
Now it is successful but I don't know why.
The problem is: the Akeeba backup item is disappeared in Component menu,
how to show it? Thank you very much.

Can you please try installing the component again? If the installation goes through successfully Joomla! should create the missing menu item automatically.

Hi,
I reinstall the 3.8.2 again, now the message shows again

-1 - An error has occurred.
Copy failed

but I install other extendsions successful.

The -1 error is the single most confusing error Joomla! will ever return. It really means "The permissions or ownership of some or all of your files or directories didn't allow me to copy some or all of the files or directories of the extension you are installing. However, I am not going to tell you what I didn't copy and you'll have to guess.". Pretty awesome message, isn't it? When I first came across it I spent a day trying to figure out WTF "-1 An error has occurred" was supposed to mean.

So, how do you work around it? By enabling the FTP options in your Global Configuration. How do you do that? By following the instructions under "Enable FTP" in https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/troubleshooter/abinstallation.html

Hi,
Please note that I have installed more extendsions and successful with FTP setting. I also installed the Admin tools. I have checked the FTP setting and premissions many times.
The error only occurred with Akeeba Backup 3.8.2.

Apparently you believe you have more experience than me and know better than following my instructions. No problem. Please allow me to close this ticket. There is no point trying to help someone who neither wants to be helped nor wants to consider the fact that I have answered the same question more than 500 times over the last 7 years. Good luck in solving your problem without following my instructions.
