Hi I seem to be experiencing this error on all my sites, so I guess there is an issue with the host. However, Akeeba been running fine on must sites for many months/years. No all of a sudden every site, no matter what server tehy are on, what version of Joomla and what version of Akeeba I'm using are failing.

With most sites, if I keep trying to backup, eventually one succeeds, but this is becoming very frustrating.

Any help, very much appreciated.

Please go to your Akeeba Backup Configuration page and try setting:

Minimum execution time: 1 second
Maximum execution time: 10 seconds
Runtime bias: 75%

If this still fails please try the conservative settings:

Minimum execution time: 5 second
Maximum execution time: 3 seconds (yes, the maximum is less than the minimum, it's not a typo)
Runtime bias: 50%

If that works (albeit much more slowly) please contact your host and explain to them that their CPU usage limits force you to slow down your backup, ending up wasting MORE resources on their server. Maybe this will convince them to relax the CPU usage limits which would then allow you to revert to your old, speedier backup settings.

Hi, apologies for delay in getting back to you - I missed your reply.

Tried both those configurations to no avail.

Have attached the log of when in the Slow settings (5:3:50)

And the verdict is in: your host has unrealistic CPU usage limits. We have tried the possible workarounds. Now it's a good time talking to your host about this issue. If they refuse to help you, please change hosts.

Are there any numbers (minimums) that I should be asking for?

There are several ways to implement these restrictions, so your guess is as good as mine. You should tell your host that your backups always fail around 2 minutes in, after approximately five page loads to the same URL (plus a couple of different POST parameters per request). They either have a CPU usage limit which should be increased or they have a protection against accessing the same URL over time which needs to be increased or lifted.
