"You can't have too many backups or have them stored in too many locations." - Nicholas K. Dionysopoulos

Yes, you should download them to your local computer. You might store one on a usb drive, another in your cloud storage, etc. Think disaster. If your host's server drive goes south and takes your site and your backups with it, do you really want to depend on their backups to recover your site? If you are traveling and your site goes down, you may not be able to access your computer, but maybe you can get to your cloud storage. Use your imagination, your paranoia will serve you well. :-)

nice one thanks..

how do i download from the list of my backups please?
thanks

You can only download one at a time through the Manage Backups screen. The button is in the far right column and only appears for locally stored, successful backups.

We recommend that you download backups using FTP in binary mode. Binary mode is important because ASCII mode will destroy the backup. With auto mode you are letting the FTP client guess what mode it should use, so you never know. The download button on the Manage Backups page is a convenience, but you are using HTTP to move the file. The HTTP protocol was not made for that, FTP was. :-)
