Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: 2.5.14
PHP version: 5.3.22
MySQL version: 5.1.70
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you)
Akeeba Backup version: (unknown)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
So, we have problems with update to 3.8.2 on ALL our sites
They all report ‘Possible write access to tmp folder’ using auto update
This is false, looking at tmp folder I see the beginning of the ZIP file (just 1398 bytes) written OK

Anyway, I download latest ZIP & install the usual way
Install takes a Restore Point Backup – NOTE THIS!!

Then instal happens but 500 error at end of instal
I ignore this & inspect Component & all seems fine

BUT!
No sign of Restore Points!!
FTP shows them in correct place
Akeeba Backup Component will not show them!
Help says look at System - System Restore Points Plugin
But this plugin seems to have GONE!!
This plugin WAS there before update

Have tested this with another of our sites
On 3.8.1 system = srp plugin installed & enabled
Do manual update - restore point taken OK
End of update SRP no longer on server!

Possible explanation

Downloaded 3.8.2 zip file day after subscription expired
Did not notice core not pro!!

dlb
That would do it, the SRP plugin is only in the Pro version. That may also be the cause of the 500 error.
