Description of my issue:
I have received many repeated messages that make me say WTF...is this for real, or is somebody hacking from my site? Or is this possibly an error from your software?
"An updated version of Joomla! is available.

Joomla! version currently installed: 2.5.14
Joomla! version available for installation: 2.5.9"

Go to Extensions, Extension Manager, Update then click on Purge Cache and Find Updates. Does that solve the notice about the old version being available for update?

there is no shown update for joomla core...but i did flush the cache anyway.
What disturbs me is that this message was sent about 30 times within 2 minutes in the middle of the night..
sound fishy?

dlb
Yes, that sounds fishy, unless you got one message each for thrity different sites. That would make perfect sense. Unfortunately if it is a hacked message not coming from Akeeba software, there is not a lot that we can do about it.

I'll flag this for Nicholas, I want him to be aware of it, even if there isn't anything we can do.

No, it's not a hack. It's Joomla!'s bloody update cache getting stuck, again. Argh!

OK, here's the workaround:
  • Go to Components, Joomla! Update
  • Click on the Options button
  • Set the "Update server" to Testing
  • Click on Save & Close and wait for the page to fully reload.
  • Ignore the update information and click on the Options button.
  • Set the "Update server" to "Long Term Support (recommended)"
  • Click on Save & Close and wait for the page to fully reload.
  • It should now tell you "You already have the latest Joomla! version, 2.5.14." If you do not see that message something's broken in your Joomla! installation and you will need to disable our "System - Joomla! Update Email" plugin to prevent the emails from coming in.
