Joomla! version: 3.1.1
PHP version: 5.3.2
MySQL version: 5.168

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
Upgraded to Akeeba today, did a fresh install of Akeeba Backup on sandbox Joomla install. Set it up to sync to dropbox. Performed a manual backup and generated the follow AJAX error:

Backup Failed

The backup operation has been halted because an error was detected.
The last error message was:

AJAX Loading Error
HTTP Status: 500 (Internal Server Error)
Internal status: error
XHR ReadyState: 4
Raw server response:

Interestingly, the backup appeared in my dropbox and appears normal in the "Manage Backups" section of Akeeba. I ran through the troubleshooter, and ran config wizard again. Everything appears to be within the parameters of Akeeba. Thank you for your help. Even though I've had this issue, this is a phenomenal product. Thank you!

As you can see in the log

It takes almost two minutes to transfer the backup archive.

Please click on the Components, Akeeba Backup menu item. In the Control Panel page which loads, click on the Configuration button. This will bring you to a quite lengthy configuration page. Locate the Archiver Engine setting in the pane titled Advanced Configuration. Click the button labeled Configure… next to it in order for the detailed settings to display.

We will have to change just one option: Part size for archive splitting. Select the "Custom..." option and type in 20 in the text box that appears to the right of the drop-down. This setting will chunk our backup archive into multiple files, the maximum size of each one being the value of this setting.

You might wonder why we need to do that. PHP always has a strict time limit, i.e. the maximum time a PHP page may process data before the web server aborts it. Uploading the backup archives to cloud storage takes time, the exact amount of which depends on the size of the file and the network speed. The time limit and the bandwidth are beyond our control, so we can change the only parameter we can touch in order to avoid timeouts: the file size. Akeeba Backup Professional is smart enough to upload each part of the backup archive on a PHP page load of each own, so as to avoid timing out.
