Description of my issue:

I have two profiles setup - the existing default profile and another profile that I set to make backups to Amazon S3.
When I automate backups via Cron Job which profile will be backed up?

Thanks,

Whichever you specify in your CRON job. All automation methods, no matter if you're using the front-end backup feature, or the akeeba-backup.php and akeeba-altbackup.php files allow you to choose whichever profile you want. If you don't specify a profile the default profile (the one with an ID of 1) will be used.

I'm reading through all the tutorials, including backing up to Amazon S3 and creating an automated crob job but I can't find where you specify the profile to use. Can you please point this out.

It will be easier for me to reply if I know one more thing. Which automation method are you going to use? For example, the akeeba-backup.php script?

Actually I got confused & got it all wrong using both the front-end backup feature and the cron job which I don't think is supposed to go together. Luckily I stumpled upon Brian Teeman's video which went through the backup process specifically the Scheduling Information > PHP CLI path.

Thanks for your help.

I'm glad you got it working! I thought that my documentation is too deep and verbose for first time users, that's why I hired a training expert like Brian to do the training videos :)

Regarding your question now, if you want to change the backup profile used by the CRON job you can just tuck the parameter:
--profile=123
right after akeeba-backup.php in your CRON command line, where 123 is the numeric ID of the profile you want to use.
