Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? I dont know what this is
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: (2.5.9)
PHP version: (5.3.15)
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: localhost
Akeeba Backup version: (3.7.4)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.
I am guessing there is no log file since I have not even restored it yet.

Description of my issue:
I have done this a million times and never had this issue. I am trying to restore a file from a site I have offsite and restore it on my local server. I have done this many times and have always done it the same way. But I can not get it to connect to the database. The only error I get is that it can not connect to the database. i have attached an image to show you what my database name and user info is. I am using Navicat.

I initially could not even get the restore program to run but I had this issue before and remembered it has something to do with the .htaccess file so I removed it and it worked. I am guessing this has nothing to do with the connection to the database but I wanted to make not if it.

Many thanks,
Houston

Just to be sure, you were restoring your site locally using Kickstart, right?
When you surfed to
yoursite/kickstart.php
did you see anything?

If not, can you confirm that removing the .htaccess file solved your problem?
If the .htaccess file was the problem, can you attach it here, so I can take a look?

No Kickstart. I backup the entire site using Akeeba. Download the zip file to my local server, unzip it and run localhost/~houston/sitename (this launched index.php) and I go through the akeeba install wizard. I have done this countless times. But this time I keep getting the "can not connect to database" error.

i have even created a new database on my localhost along with a new username and still can not connect.

I have confirmed that the .htaccess is deleted because with in installed, akeeba will no even come up.

Try switching between the mysql and mysqli (with and without the trailing i) database drivers.

Try switching between localhost and 127.0.0.1 as db server hostnames. They may appear to be the same thing, but appearances can be deceiving.

Make sure your username is entered as dcc, not dcc@localhost. The @something is not part of the username, it's just a reminder of which origin this username is valid for. In this case, @localhost means that only connections from localhost can use this username (and associated password).

I am not using the @localhost, I never have.

Using the ip address did not work nor did using mysqli.

This is too weird. I have no idea. I am doing it like I always do it.

It may sound a bit crazy, but can you please try resetting the password of the database user?

Well, I deleted the database and user and recreated a new one and now it worked. Funny thing is I did this several times and it did not work. Guess there was a typo in there or something I am not sure.

Thanks for your patience with me.

Many thanks,
Houston
