Hello Pamela,

I'd recommend downloading Akeeba Backup Professional 3.7.4 and install it on your site, without uninstalling Akeeba Backup 3.4.3. Please do this installation twice, without uninstalling anything in between. This will perform the upgrade just fine.

I installed 3.7.4 pro as suggested. On the first install, I got this error message:
JFolder: :files: Path is not a folder. Path: /home/padeasla/public_html/administrator/components/com_akeeba/sql/update/mysql

followed by the message:
Installing component was successful.

=======================
on the second install, it says component was successful.

was the first error message anything to follow up on ?

Nope. I know the Joomla! extensions installer randomly blows up and spits out nonsense / forgets to install database tables / forgets to copy files / (insert other crazy, irreproducible issue here), hence my suggestion for a double installation :)
