Description of my issue:

Hi, I updated my akeeba (via the admin panel) and got the following error

Fatal error: Class 'JControllerLegacy' not found in /home/content/58/10171958/html/libraries/fof/controller/controller.php on line 22

I get it when i try to access akeeba, but the rest of the site and admin seems fine.

Please search the other similar threads. Quick solution: upgrade to 3.7.1

Hi, I don't have system-system restore points on my computer, i uninstalled akeeba back up and then tried to re-install the 3.7.1. Same issue.

There are two akeeba compontents that i can't seem to get rid of when i un-install. Akeeba Backup Lazy Scheduling and Akeeba Backup Notification Module. I get errors when i try. I can't find any akeeba folders etc in my FTP once it's un installed.

any ideas, at this point i don't have akeeba installed and that makes me feel vulnerable with this site as i want to be able to keep it backed up. Should i update my joomla version first?

The files of these extensions don't exist (they are not distributed any more), so there is nothing for Joomla! to remove.

Hm, looking again at your ticket I see that I was wrong. The problem wasn't the Akeeba Backup version, but Joomla!'s version. You need Joomla! 2.5.6 or later to run Akeeba Backup 3.7.0 or later and Admin Tools 2.5.0 or later. Your current version of Joomla! is extremely old, outdated and vulnerable. Please do the following:

  • Remove the libraries/fof directory from your site
  • Remove the media/akeeba_strapper directory from your site
  • Install Akeeba Backup Professional 3.6.12 and Admin Tools 2.4.4
  • Backup your site with Akeeba Backup
  • Upgrade Joomla! to 2.5.9 with Admin Tools
  • Install Akeeba Backup Professional 3.7.1 and Admin Tools 2.5.1

You're welcome!

Admin Tools has always offered that feature. It's so good that after Joomla! 1.7 the Joomla! project itself removed their own Joomla! updater and had me port Admin Tools' Joomla! updater to the core. The "Joomla! Update" component you see in Joomla! 2.5 and later was originally written by yours truly and is just a port of an old version of Admin Tools' Joomla! update feature. I just had to make some changes to make it "fit" the rest of the CMS and follow some stricter guidelines set forth by the Joomla! developers. OK, since then Admin Tools has evolved a lot and is still a superior product, but I can still have the bragging rights that I (re)wrote Joomla!'s own updater ;)
