Joomla! version: 2.5.8
PHP version: 5.2.17
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: Hostgator shared
Akeeba Backup version: 3.6.3

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:  Front end Cron job failing, not sure why - worked okay previously.  Akeeba backend still working okay.  Log file attached.  DB size about 450 MB, akeeba file 182 MB

First try setting the part size for split archives to 100Mb.

If this doesn't work, try the following settings:

  • Minimum execution time: 1 second
  • Maximum execution time: 7 seconds
  • Runtime bias: 50%

If you still get no backup , try:

  • Minimum execution time: 5 second
  • Maximum execution time: 3 seconds (yes, the maximum is less than the minimum, it's not a typo)
  • Runtime bias: 50%

If the problem persists then the problem has to do with how much time you need to perform the backup. In your log file I see that the backup halts at exactly one hour and one minute into the process. Maybe your host has a maximum time limit for CRON jobs?

Thanks - I am sending to dropbox in post-processing, so I have the part size for split set at 20.   Should I leave at 20 and just try adjusting the execution settings?

Yes, leave it at 20Mb and try adjusting the execution settings.

Turns out hostgator shared does terminate after 1 hour, so that is the problem.  What settings would you recommend to accelerate Akeeba backup to run in less than 1 hour - it is currently taking 1 hour and 8 minutes when executed via the backend.

You can create a new backup profile with the following settings:

  • Minimum execution time: 1 second
  • Maximum execution time: 30 seconds
  • Runtime bias: 70%

If this doesn't work you'll have to avoid backing up something. The prime candidate is that big table with million rows which takes about 50 minutes to back up.

Nicholas - thanks - I've got some old DB data I can clear out, and I'll work with the execution time as you recommend.  Closing this one -thanks again!
