Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting? yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? YES
Joomla! version: 2.5.8
PHP version: (unknown) 5.3x
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you)
Akeeba Backup version: 3.6.10

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Backup and restore work fine but I can't get the SFTP (or FTP) to work due to Akeeba reporting I don't have the proper root directory set (on the remote server).

"Your FTP/FTPS/SFTP directory is not defined correctly. You will be redirected back to the previous page to correct it. If in doubt about what this means, please read our documentation."

I know I do have it set and that the logon info I use is good (I manually ftp'd from the server that my Joomla/Akeeba installation resides on and can connect without problem. And yes, I *DO* have the correct directory defined in Akeeba (Site Transfer Wizard)

The log doesn't seem to tell much but it is attached

The directory check works like that:

  • The file media/com_akeeba/icons/ok_small.png is uploaded by FTP as akeeba_connection_test.png to the FTP directory you specified
  • Akeeba Backup tells the browser to load that file using the site URL you have specified
  • If the browser reports that the file cannot be loaded then Akeeba Backup throws the error message you said.

The thing is that the error message may be misleading in some cases. It means that one of the following is wrong:

  • Your FTP/FTPS/SFTP directory does not exist
  • Your FTP/FTPS/SFTP directory exists but it is not pointing to your target site's root
  • The site URL you have specified is wrong. You should specify it as http://www.example.com i.e. with the http:// or https:// prefix and without a trailing slash. If your target site is in a subdirectory specify it as http://www.example.com/subdirectory
  • Your FTP server applies strange permissions which don't allow web access to the uploaded files. I've seen many Plesk servers giving 0600 permissions to the files, triggering this issue.

If all else fails, please tell me so that I can make this ticket private and then you can give me the necessary Super Administrator login, FTP and URL information for me to help you.
