Joomla! version: (2.5.6)
PHP version: (5.2.17)
MySQL version: (mysqli)
Host: (Hostgator, I am on my own dedicated server)
Akeeba Backup version: (3.6.10)

Description of my issue:

I recently upgraded joomla form 1.5.19 to 2.5.6 and reinstalled Akeeba. I am on the same server as before. I cannot get Akeeba to back up now. Just keep getting the 500 error at the last step:

Finalizing the backup process...

Thanks for the help!

I can think of two reasons why this would happen:

1. You have a broken installation of Akeeba Backup. In order to work around that, you will have to perform some manual work. Remove the following folders:
- administrator/components/com_akeeba EXCEPT the administrator/components/com_akeeba/backup directory and the administrator/components/com_akeeba/akeeba/serverkey.php file. If you remove that directory and that file you will lose your existing backups and/or settings.
- components/com_akeeba
- administrator/modules/mod_akadmin
- media/com_akeeba
- plugins/system/plg_srp
- plugins/system/plg_akeebaupdatecheck
- plugins/system/plg_aklazy
- plugins/system/plg_oneclickaction
Now you can re-install Akeeba Backup.

2. Most likely cause: you are running out of disk space. Try removing any old, leftover big files (such as old backup archives in your site's root or your backup output directory) or buy more disk space from your host.

Thanks for the suggestions.

1. I removed the folders and reinstalled.

2. Removed or excluded large files.

Still does not work. I doubt it is a disk space issue as i am on my own server with no limits and currently only at 29% capacity

It keeps getting stuck at finalizing backup process -> updating statistics.

Your log tells me a COMPLETELY different story:

DEBUG |121217 05:00:11|====== Starting Step number 1 ======
DEBUG |121217 05:00:11|Kettenrad :: BREAKING STEP BEFORE SWITCHING DOMAIN
DEBUG |121217 05:00:11|AECoreDomainInstaller :: New instance
DEBUG |121217 05:00:11|-- Adding installation/README.html to archive (virtual data)
ERROR |121217 05:00:11|Couldn't write to the archive file; check the output directory permissions and make sure you have enough disk space available.[len=338 / 343]

Apparently you are running out of disk space. This is the same message I saw in your previous log and it happens at the beginiing of the backup, long before coming to the "Update statistics" step.

Thanks, I did a full uninstall and resinstalled and it worked correctly.
