Thank you for your feedback, but I still think that you didn't read the instructions at all. You skimmed through them, maybe, but read them you did not. Not wanting to play Santa Claus here, magically knowing who's naught and whi's nice, I will prove it in two ways. First, let's take the instructions one step at a time, using Joomla! 3.0.2, the built in Isis template and the latest dev release of Akeeba Backup.
Begin by going to your site and clicking on Components, Akeeba Backup. In the top part of the Control Panel page you will find the Component Parameters button. Click on it.
The Components menu is there. Akeeba Backup is there. Component Parameters is there. Click, click, click, no problem. Note: three (3) clicks.
If you have a later version of Joomla!, please click on the Live update tab.
It's there, I'm clicking on it. Note: it's a tab, not a button.
You will now see the Download ID box. Paste the following code in there:
(redacted)
Too obvious, but yes it's there.
Make sure that the "Update only to developer releases" option is set to "No". Then, click on Save.
Yup, it's all there.
Click on the button next to the Component Parameters one.
Important note: Right here I assume that the user is able to figure out that he's supposed to go back to the component's main page. My original instructions did say so, but the feedback I got from people is that they found it too insulting to their intelligence. That said, I did keep being very explicit about which button to click despite their protests:
Depending on your update status it may read "Up to date", "UPDATE FOUND" or "Live Update is not supported".
The button is there and I can click it. In my case –since I did try installing a dev release– it was labelled "UPDATE FOUND".
No matter what it reads, click on it. On the new page, please click on the "Refresh update information" button.
Of course the button is there and of course I can click it. Oh, nice, the download URL changed, so this thing did work after all ;)
Therefore I am 100% sure that these instructions, which I personally wrote, are perfectly accurate and cover Joomla! 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 2.5 and 3.0. I still do not understand which part you found confusing and think it should be changed to address Joomla! 3.0. Just to give you an idea of why I think you simply browsed through the instructions and never really read them. You said:
logged in on backend > clicked akeeba backup from the component > click on the live update tab
Now, read the instructions again. Here is what I tell you to do:
Begin by going to your site and clicking on Components, Akeeba Backup. In the top part of the Control Panel page you will find the Component Parameters button. Click on it.
And here is what you did:
logged in on backend > clicked akeeba backup from the component > click on the live update tab
There is a blatant disparity between what you are told to do and what you actually do. I tell you to click on Component Parameters. You click on Live Update. So, no, I don't think I have to change any single word in my instructions. You just have to read them more carefully.
Since using Akeeba Backup may result in issues with solutions which are all documented, I urge you to learn how to read my instructions carefully. It will save you time and frustration. I am dead serious here. If it's necessary, print them out and use a ruler to cross out each step as you complete it (not kidding, as a former business consultant I've found this method surprisingly effective). If you follow my instructions to the letter there's too few, if anything, which can go wrong.
