Just wanted to let you know that I am also having this issue where the backup hangs at the end while backing up statistics. I read the ticket and added the ak_stats table. I am running Joomla 2.5.7 on PHP 5.3.18. Adding the table fixed my issue as well and I have no idea why the table did not get added during the install. All the other tables did.

I'm trying to reproduce this issue, but is sees very random right now. All fresh installations I've tried work. Upgrades from 3.4.3 onwards also worked. Earlier versions of Akeeba Backup didn't even work on Joomla! 2.5, so there is no way to test an upgrade from a version earlier than that. I think!

So, in the interest of collecting more data trying to establish a pattern, how did you end up without an #__ak_stats table? Was that a fresh install or an upgrade? Is your site a fresh J! 2.5 site or was it upgraded from 1.5/1.6/1.7? Did you get any errors while installing?

Yea, random issues are the worst. This is what I did. I had a Joomla 1.5 site that I upgraded to 1.5.26. I then use the migration tool JPUgrade to migrate it over to Joomla 2.5.4. I installed Akeeba 3.6.5 core. I also installed JCE and Admin Tools. Downloaded the latest release and upgraded to 3.6.8 of Backup Pro but had not installed the key. Tried a backup and it hung. I entered the key and the same thing happened. Then I searched the tickets, found the ticket about haning up and took your SQL code and manually created the ak_stats table. Ran it again and it worked. For some reason that table did not get created during the installation process.

I did not get any errors on any of the installations.

OK, now I do see a pattern! All users with this issue have a site which was migrated from 1.5 to 2.5 using jUpgrade. Apparently jUpgrade migrates some, but not all, database tables. This is what is confusing Joomla!'s installer and the table is not created.
