Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: 2.5.7 & All
PHP version: 5.2.17
MySQL version: 5.1.65-cll
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you)
Akeeba Backup version: 3.6.7

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
JFYI: In your documentation, you refer to adding the profile id in the command for frontend backups and then provide an example showing the addition of "&profile=" not "&id="...I think it's "profile=" that works.

I think this is an issue:
When I configure my emails to include the [REMOTESTATUS] variable, I actually get "[REMOTESTATUS]" in my email, i.e. it is not being converted.

Loving my new pro versions of Backup & Tools. I think your software is by the far the best written Joomla software I have used.

Hi Nick,
Scratch the [REMOTESTATUS] not translating. I re-read the DOC and realised it was only not working on an older installation on J1.5 (3.4.3).

The DOC typo however is legit.

Cheers

Yep, I saw it. However, the next line reads &profile= so it's not a big deal. Furthermore, newer versions of Akeeba Backup have the Scheduling Information feature which renders this documentation page almost obsolete. But thank you anyway!

Not entirely!
Setting up cron on every site hosted, is laborious and difficult to manage.
I saw the Scheduling Info but prefer to create a single batch file adding new sites in as they come and running it from local Task scheduler.

Makes it MUCH easier and effective to manage.

I think you should re-read my post. I didn't say that you must necessarily use a CRON job on the same site you are backing up from. I said that the Scheduling Information page –which you seem to have never taken a look at– does contain all the information which is in the documentation in a much easier to understand format. Well, just look at the page. It even has instructions for setting up WebCron.org, of the step-by-silly-little-step kind.

Pro tip: the Scheduling Information page gives you the EXACT URL you need to backup your site remotely, no matter which method you decide to use (one of our own or a roll-your-own).

So, when I tell you to look at something I mean that you should REALLY take a look at that something because it will save you time and trouble. Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

(Bonus points if you spot the geeky joke ;) )

Hi Nicholas (who tells me off better than my own Mother!), after re-reading your post: "Scheduling Information feature which renders this documentation page almost obsolete." I RE-read the page you didn't think I had read and after selecting the Documentation for the option I wanted, I was taken back to the page which provided me the inconsistent info I had tried to tell you about.

Nevertheless, in amongst all the geeky humor I am clear you know what you're doing, so I'm off to better myself...and learn what there is to learn.

P.S. no points for anything...I'm just being very cheeky.

Hi Nicholas (who tells me off better than my own Mother!)

LOL! That's what happens when I've had no caffeine for hours and replying late at night :D Sorry about that.

I RE-read the page you didn't think I had read and after selecting the Documentation for the option I wanted, I was taken back to the page which provided me the inconsistent info I had tried to tell you about.

What I mean is:
- Go to Scheduling Information
- Scroll down to the "Front-end Backup Feature" area
- Click on the "URL" tab
- You see something like this:
URL for use with your own scripts and third party services: http://www.example.com/index.php?option=com_akeeba&view=backup&key=mysecretkey&profile=2

This makes the long instructions in the documentation obsolete. Why? The URL you get depends on your currently active backup profile. If it's the default profile there is no &profile=2 part in the URL. As soon as you activate a different backup profile in the Akeeba Backup Control Panel page before visiting the Scheduling Information you get the &profile=2 (or whatever the currently selected profile ID is) added to it.

Aahh, I see what you mean now.
I had managed to figure out the url with a little trial and error...so I wasn't really looking for that,

"Couldn't see the wood for the trees", this also showed up why one of sites wasn't backing up...it hadn't been activated.

One things is for sure...I certainly can't fault the software.
