Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes, all listed
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes, can't find same problem
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes...various ones...I read them all the time
Joomla! version: 2.5.7
PHP version: 5.3.10
MySQL version: 5.1.63-cli
Host: InMotion Hosting
Akeeba Backup version: 3.6.7 Pro

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

When I create a backup, with the output directory being inside the root directory, my backup result is about 84 MB and takes about 19 seconds to create. This is consistent with other backups I have made and the size of the site.

When I create a backup, with the output directory being *outside* the root directory, the result is about 674 MB and takes 1 minutes 34 seconds to create.

I'm not sure why the files ends up being so huge when I specify a directory outside the root? My configuration.php file *is* inside the root directory.

Sorry if there is already a post/ticket about this somewhere, but I couldn't find it.

You are backing up the directory bkupz under your site's root which contains older backups. Remember that since you have changed your backup output directory Akeeba Backup no longer knows that the bkupz directory contains backups and should be skipped automatically. Therefore you have to skip it manually, using the Files and Directories Exclusion feature.
