EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Hello,

Sorry if this has been posted somewhere, I searched as hard as I can but I couldn't find it.

I have bought Akeeba Backup Pro yesterday for the upload to S3 feature. I have set it to upload 10MB parts. Backs up without a hitch (upload's slow, but I guess it's due to my host), but...why is the size much smaller (about half, actually) than my previous (non-multipart) backups?

My previous backups usually come at 170+MB. The multi-part ones (remote and local) are only 80+MB (shown in brackets eg '(86.75MB)', I assume that means multi-part). Is there something I'm doing wrong?

This is my backup log (you are going to hide it, right?) -https://dl.dropbox.com/u/107772075/Akeeba%20Backup%20Debug%20Log.txt

Thank you.

Hello Mas,

The number in the parentheses is the total size of the backup. It's correct. Your log file tells me that your backup's size is 86.75 Mb:
DEBUG |121010 14:46:54|Total size of backup archive (in bytes): 90104614

There are also no warnings about unreadable files / folders, so I am pretty sure this is the correct size.

Why were your older backups bigger? Maybe it was a bad setup, e.g. not using the extended INSERTs for database data. Maybe you were backing up a secondary site or an older backup stored, let's say, in your site's root. In any case the current backup seems to be correct in size.

Hi Nicholas,

Yeah, maybe I was using a bad config in the older backups. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that it's smaller now - I'm just curious if it's smaller because it leaves out some stuff due to errors.

I'm going to try restoring to make sure. But my curiosity has been answered, so I'm closing this ticket. Thank you for the speedy response!

It was a very reasonable question. I would be worried if I saw such a drop in size, just like you were now. Asking me was a good thing. As you guessed, there's only one thing which is better than reading the log: doing a test restoration of the site on a subdomain or on a local server (e.g. WAMPServer, XAMPP, MAMP, ...) ;)
